Gardenia's Butterscotch Bread

Butterscotch bread is Gardenia's latest addition to their many varieties of bread. To be honest, I have stop buying Gardenia's bread for quite a while now after I did an experiment and found out it had too much preservatives.

But since everyone have been raving about the new bread, I decided to give it a try. I had always been a fan of butterscotch, the "flavour" itself so I expected the bread to taste really good. Unfortunately, it turn out otherwise.

I find the bread nothing special. It tasted a lot like white bread, just a sweeter version plus some yellow spots. Butterscotch should have this creamy, caramelized sweet after taste and I couldn't taste any of that in the bread.

As much as I hate to say this, I don't think there will ever be a second time. Plus, I have to admit it's a tad expensive at RM 4 for a loaf of bread. (Please don't compare the RM 15 Japanese bread in One U and Mid Valley)

Anyway, I'm going for a camp tomorrow. Not exactly looking forward with the amount of workload I have but it's a compulsory-cost-a-lot-of-mark thing. :( Some food that I'll be bringing :P

Cheap Sushi

I had my virgin bite of sushi back in primary two. I am not so sure if Sushi King (or Sakae Sushi for that matter) exist then, but i was sure, that's not the place I lost my sushi virginity. (Pardon the sex-langguage ;p)

Jusco (the hypermarket) was where I had my first sushi. I didn't really like my first bite but it's been so many years and my taste buds had changed too. Plus the fact that there are so many Japanese restaurants (especially those with kaiten belts) now, I'm pretty much accustomed to eating Japanese food already.

The last I had was in Jusco, Mid Valley where I had it take away for my mum but the one pictured here is the ones I had with Jess in Penang, Queensbay.

I remembered back then it was cheap but now, i would say it's reasonable. The plus point is that it is really convienient if you want to have it take away.

The total price for this sushi was RM 25++. Cheap, reasonable or expensive? That's for you to judge :)

Free and Easy

Yes, Free and Easy is the name of the restaurant. It is located at Taman Connaught, Cheras (Same row as Secret Recipe). I came here a while ago when I was staying in a friend's condo for a few days and had promised to treat my friend a meal before I leave.

The whole restaurant is painted black , and you can scribble anything you like on the wall. The table is black as well and you can scribble on it too.

Ambiance is great especially if you're on a date, and the black wall was truly something special.

Pork Chop

The pork chop is served on a bed of shredded cabbage and is fried to perfection. The rule of the thumb of a good pork chop is the freshness of the pork and they certainly fullfilled this criteria. Highly recommended by me.

Thai Chicken Rice

My friend, whose a regular here told me this is one of their popular dish. I didn't try because we were too busy talking!

Mocha Ice

Friend's drink.

Plum

It tasted alright but it wasn't cold enough.

I am definitely going to visit this place again. The dim lights and black walls differs them from other restaurants in KL. Not to mention the varieties of board games available there.

The price : Less than RM 25 for the both of us.

Good food + Good Price + Good ambiance , What more can you ask?

Oh before i end this post, one of the scribbles I saw there.

Just thought you might find it interesting ;p

A & W

The first time I had it was when I was really little in KL. It was a big thing because they didn't have it in Kuching yet. Fast forward many years later, it opened two branches in Kuching. But, in less than five years, both branches closed down.

They have rather limited branches and thus I never had it again until many years later when i stumbled upon a branch in Alamanda, Putrajaya.and then 2 years later in Leisure Mall, Cheras.

Coney Dog

I think A & W is the only place in Malaysia that can come out with coney dogs that has a local taste. Most places like, 1901 for instance are serve the traditional Western version with the gherkins, mustards and all.

Curly Fries

I love their curly fries better than McDonalds.Somehow McD's is a bit too salty for my liking and they tend to over-fry it.

Root Beer Float

The huge glass of root beer and vanilla ice cream never fail to make me happy. Perfect combination. :)

I wish I can have it now. :( Extremely stress at the moment. Five exams, three days continously. I can't breathe.

Nasi Lemak

Before I came back to uni, I managed to ask my mother to cook me nasi lemak. It was quite impromptu. I just happen to be in the kitchen, open the fridge, and said, " Hey Mom, let's cook nasi lemak tomorrow.".

Sambal

A good sambal is when your tastebud is able to detect the spicyness, saltiness, aromatic belachan, a hint of sweetness and most of all it is not watery.

Cucumber

Anchovies

Peanut

Boiled Egg

There's also the coconut rice but i forget to take a picture of it. :P

... and there you go, a plate of Nasi Lemak.

Call me conservative, but I like my Nasi Lemak this way. No extras.

P/s : Sorry for the lack of updates. Kinda busy with mid-sem examinations.

Oh yeah, Happy Valentine's Day! <3

Chap Goh Mey 2009

Yesterday marks the second time of me celebrating the end of Chinese New Year without my family. I miss them a lot and to get things off my mind I promised myself a good meal.

There's chicken, potatoes, baked beans, french beans, pandan chicken and vegetarian meat rolls. It looks pretty normal but I don't normally have a luxury like this. and if you consider the fact that i didn't eat the whole day, this is nothing close to luxury.

All wash down with a pack of Milo Ais.

I also have some left over oranges that i bought a few days ago.

I won't say mine is a sad Chap Goh Mey, because i believe there's probably millions out there who could not even afford a meal. So yes, I am contented with what I have. :)

Chinese New Year 2009

I didn't intend to post this today, but since it's Chap Goh Mey, i thought it will be a good idea to post this.

I don't have much visitors every year. My family is a small family and the visitors consist more of my dad's worker and parent's friends and each year the food on display is pretty much the same.

Pineapple Tarts

Meat Floss Tarts

Kuih
Bangkit

Cheese Sticks

Cashew nuts

Dried Pork with Fruit Juice

Yes, you read it right. with fruit juice! Damn good!

Dried Cuttlefish

I only took pictures of the snacks that were on display but fact is, i had so much more in the kitchen! Hehe. I don't know if you guys would agree with me on this but, houses that had too much snacks on display just look so cheap. :)

Happy Chap Goh Mey , readers! It'll be one good year again, till the next Chinese New Year. In the meantime, have a good year and play safe. :)

Pizza Hut Golden Fortune

Pizza Hut always come up with something interesting during each and every festive season. Unfortunately, these seasonal menu usually suck, that each time they come out with new menu, I am never lured to go and have my share of taste.

However, this time it's different. It was the first day of Chinese New Year and I didn't have much choice since most shops are close except for fast-food chains. I didn't want KFC, McDonalds is too far and I'm left with Pizza Hut.

I chose the "two-pizza-for-RM 29" and upgraded one to the golden fortune pizza for RM 8.88. It was surprisingly good. I like the lemon tinge in it and the cheese golden crown tasted good. It would be perfect if they took out the shells of the prawn.

for the other pizza, i had the traditional hawaiian supreme.

It must be some quality upgrading or something, but Pizza Hut's crust don't seem to taste like last time. It tasted way better than the last time i had it! and this is coming from someone who hates Pizza Hut!

I guess it's safe for me to say that this is one of the most successful seasonal menu.

CNY Reunion Dinner

I know everyone else had blog what they had for their reunion and mine probably comes in last. I was back in Kuching and there's no Internet at home. I'm now back here in Uni, and feeling VERY homesick!

Every year, my reunion dinner is kept simple but i always love the feeling of it. The together-ness. :)

Steam Kampung Chicken

Zhap Choy ( Stir-Fry Mixed Vegetables )

There's razor clams, sea cucumber, brocolli, straw mushrooms, abalone mushrooms, chick pea and Chinese leek.

Fish maw, meatballs soup and wong bak soup

The meatballs symbolizes "lion head"(respect) and every one must eat one during the reunion dinner. And i totally love fish maw! No, not those dry and fake ones you see in supermarket!

Pak Lo Duck

I only had a bit of this cause there were so much to eat and i kinda forgotten about the duck. Regretting now!

Lamb Curry with potatoes

My mother actually cook 7kg worth of lamb this year! No lamb for me for at least a few months!

Steam Fish

This is an obligatory dish. Not so sure what is it for, but according to tradition, you're not suppose to finish the whole fish. The head and the tail of the fish is suppose to be kept till Chap Goh Mey.

Rice

Like d'uh. Hehe.

Bird's Nest

I had this for desert. It is cooked in a slow cooker for a bout four hours or so with pandan leaves and rock sugar.

And when the clock strike 12 midnight, I went out to see the fireworks. It's a tad weird for me tho' this year, coz my family is not putting any firecrackers and fireworks because we're still in the one year period of mourning for my grandfather.

and i hope it's not too late for me to wish everyone a prosperous Chinese New Year! Gong Hei Fatt Choy!
