My Second (impromptu) Marathon Report

I have a bad habit of doing things on impulse. Sometime last week, after a late night supper with friends, I saw a notice of the first ever quarter marathon to be held in my university. I had no intention of entering it since I have class right after it.However, upon entering my room, suddenly this wild drive of joining the marathon kicks in. Without thinking much, i went down, took down the details and went to register myself the very next day.

It was until after registering myself, I began to question myself if i can do it. You see, I haven't been running, jogging (or involved in any sports for that matter) for the past one month. I got sick in the beginning of the month for two weeks and right after that, it is either I am too busy or it rains.

But since I had already registered and paid for it, it'll be a waste if i decided to chicken out. I wanted to train but it keep raining so the only thing I did prior to the marathon was to add my carbohydrate intake.

I woke up late on the day of the marathon. Thanks to a hostel mate who woke me up in the middle of the night! It was quite a rush. I shove down two buns and drank a bit of yogurt drink, bath and head out.

I reached there and started eating my Power Bar. There was only 95 participants of which only 36 were girls for the quarter marathon. It got me quite worried cause I certainly don't want to arrive last. It's even crazier that I did not know which route I was gonna run!

It started off around 7.50 a.m. I have to say I made the same mistake of running to fast in the beginning and by the 3rd k.m I was almost dead. Hey, there was only 36 girls, if you start slow , you're gonna be the last easily.

The running got really dull very quickly because they made us run on this private road of my uni which is not open to public. The only thing I saw was trees, trees and trees. I'll have to say it was not very "conducive" to run especially when there's very little runners!

After 38 minutes of running around a jungle, I finally saw a building, 1 km from my university! It was an encouragement! I started running faster! There was a water station in front but I passed on that since I brought my own sports drink. What I didn't know was, there's still a long way back. About 4 km or so. I was getting extremely tired and there were very little runners left. It didn't help that I were starting to feel very giddy.

It got late and there were a lot of cars coming - no road closure and I started to have very bad gastric PLUS stomach cramp. I walked about a kilometre and alternate running in between. It was until the 9th km, my body told me I couldn't take it anymore. The cramp were getting really bad, I was very tired and I just wanted to quit. The organizer saw that I wasn't alright and send me back. But I still had to run another 400 m , so that made me finish 9.4 km of the quarter marathon.

At the end of the marathon, I drank a cup of milo and almost puked the whole thing out. It's officially my worst run. I usually manage to run 8 km easily without feeling any cramps, gastric or even giddy!

How to cook porridge

One of the meal I enjoyed cooking at home is porridge. I never enjoy porridge outside cause there's always lack of something. Either too watery, too salty, too thick or tasteless. There's just something wrong with it.

Ingredients (clockwise) :
i) Plain Porridge - You can cook it with the rice cooker.
ii) Egg and Minced pork (Marinated with sesame oil and salt and pepper to taste)
iii) Century Egg, Salted Egg and Spring Onion
iv) Taiwan Sausage (to be pan fried before hand) and shitake mushrooms

First, move the cooked plain porridge to the clay pot. If you don't have clay pot, just use any normal pot.

Then put in the minced pork.

When the minced pork is 30% cooked, put in the shitake mushrooms.

Lastly, when the porridge is starting to "boil" up, turn off the fire. Crack the egg and on top of the porridge. It will cook by itself. (If you don't like it this way, you can crack the egg before turning off the fire)

It's ready!

Bon apetit.

Poslaju

One of the little things in life that made my day is receiving a package (or a letter for that matter). The excitement of opening a package is just priceless.

From someone wonderful , to someone wonderful. :D

I had no idea what's inside but the first thing I saw was a Tesco reusable plastic beg! From an environmental enthusiasts who claimed that I've been using too much plastic begs. :P

And then it's Ovaltine and my favourite golden bear biscuit, strawberry flavour! I know you must've thought why it's Ovaltine, not Milo ? Well, Jess read it somewhere that Ovaltine improves your short-term memory. It doesn't work with other chocolate malt drink though.

Even with the advancement in technology, I think nothing beats receiving a snail mail or a package. It's just different. ;p

Start sending me things now! :)

Wong Kok Kitchen

If there is one thing I would complaint about Queensbay Mall, Penang, It would be the lack of eateries in the mall. So, whenever I'm there, I never exactly had the problem on deciding where to eat.

Wong Kok Kitchen is another version of Kim Gary-like restaurant. I had thought that it is a franchise of Wong Kok Char Chan Teng but after going through the menu, I found out it isn't.

They have a varieties of pastries for you to choose and it is available the whole day. I find these pastries a good appetizer.

Yam Puff

This one is not commendable and it tasted way below average.

Egg Tarts

The puff pastry was almost perfect. They served it hot and I find the combination of hot creamy custard egg with the layers of crispy flaky pastry heavenly. Must order.
.
Po Lo Pau

This dish is the most remarkable from this restaurant. The pineapple pastry on top goes really well with the thick-generous knob of butter. Sinful but very, very good.

Macau Pork Burger

Me, being me would never miss any chances to order a pork dish. However I find the pork chop too small - about the size of half the bun. Also I was quite turn off by the foul pork smell.

Black Pepper Seafood Rice

This is Jessica's dish. I didn't try but she said it was alright. I didn't find it appealing though.

Milk Tea

The tea is priced at RM3.80 per glass. Pretty hefty I would say, especially when half the glass is filled of ice. But I can assure you, this is the best milk tea I've ever had.

While the food is easily passed on, I would say it's worth it to visit the place for the great pastries.

AirAsia In-flight food review

I arrived really late for one of my flight - about 10 minutes or so before check-in closes. I was really hungry but not in time for any food and thus, leads me to no choice but to buy the in-flight food.

There wasn't much choice in the Snack Attack meal and I went for the Pak Nasser's Nasi Lemak.

You see, I've boarded Malaysia Airlines most of the time and nasi lemak is one of the food they usually serve for breakfast. Taste? It's not exactly bad, but it's not good either.

So, I didn't expect much for Air Asia's Pak Nasser Nasi Lemak as well. I just wanted to fill my tummy. Surprisingly though, it tasted good. The rice were fragrant, the sambal was spicy enough and the chicken curry were good.

What impressed me was the detailed touch - the banana leaf.

Tell me, which airline in the world serve nasi lemak with banana leaf? ;p

p/s : I'm still sick. The ulcers in my throat is still there and my throat still hurts like hell. I'm foreseeing a fourth visit to the doctor.
