Old Town White Coffee

Looking at my last few latest post, I realized how long it has been since I last written a proper post. So, today, with a little extra time under my belt, I'm going to do my readers a little favor : to blog!

Location : Old Town White Coffee.

I've always have this mind set that if you really want to have savor local fares, you just have to have it in a hawker setting - with the heat, sweat and a little mess. In Malaysian lingo, "got feel ah!" But of course, there are times when I do wanna enjoy my nasi lemak or curry mee in a comfortable setting and when that happens, Old Town is the place to be!

This review is a collection of the Old Town-s in Kuching, KL and Penang. I initially wanted to have it in separate posts, but decided not to after looking at the amount of back logs I have yet to write.

Nasi lemak is my guilty pleasure. If only I was blessed with better metabolism rate, Nasi Lemak would be my staple food! Old Town pass with flying colors for the pre requisite of a good nasi lemak - great sambal!

The one pictured above is the Nasi Lemak with Rendang Ayam. They have another one - Nasi Lemak Special. I would suggest going for the latter as the chicken rendang is quite tasteless and not to mention, for the same portion as the Nasi Lemak Special, it's priced at RM 2 extra. Pfft.

A visit to Old Town is not going to be complete without ordering the toast. I love the kaya and butter toast.

But if you're into something with more heavy flavors, go for the curry potato toast. The curry isn't the best i've tasted, but it is nice. Slightly spicy and rather rich. Don't be fooled by the small portion, it really does fill you up!

The garlic butter toast is easily something you can pass on. It's nothing but a toast with garlic spread.

You know, I've always felt obligated to order their coffee in each and every visit. It must have been the nice coffee aroma that is lingering all around the establishment. But to be honest, I never like how their coffee taste. I've tried all of it (yes, I am a frequent patron!) and find the hazelnut coffee to be the worst amongst the range. I suppose it's an acquired taste. For me, I didn't like the unpleasant after taste.

The Xi Mut Milk Tea is quite different from other milk teas out there. It's thick and strong but it was not the kind of aroma i favor. I've also tried the other milk tea (they only have two if i'm not mistaken) and find it to be too mild instead. Yes, yes, I have a fussy taste bud to please. Lol.

I've never actually tried their non-caffeine drinks and the drinks below are ordered by my makan kaki - who have the tendency to order non-caffeine drinks in a coffee joint. :P

If there's anyone from Old Town management reading this : Hello! :) The service in LCCT suck balls. I've been there way too many times and it still sucks. I demanded for the manager but he/she was no way around. Hmpphff.

AirAsia In-flight food review

I arrived really late for one of my flight - about 10 minutes or so before check-in closes. I was really hungry but not in time for any food and thus, leads me to no choice but to buy the in-flight food.

There wasn't much choice in the Snack Attack meal and I went for the Pak Nasser's Nasi Lemak.

You see, I've boarded Malaysia Airlines most of the time and nasi lemak is one of the food they usually serve for breakfast. Taste? It's not exactly bad, but it's not good either.

So, I didn't expect much for Air Asia's Pak Nasser Nasi Lemak as well. I just wanted to fill my tummy. Surprisingly though, it tasted good. The rice were fragrant, the sambal was spicy enough and the chicken curry were good.

What impressed me was the detailed touch - the banana leaf.

Tell me, which airline in the world serve nasi lemak with banana leaf? ;p

p/s : I'm still sick. The ulcers in my throat is still there and my throat still hurts like hell. I'm foreseeing a fourth visit to the doctor.

Nasi Lemak

Before I came back to uni, I managed to ask my mother to cook me nasi lemak. It was quite impromptu. I just happen to be in the kitchen, open the fridge, and said, " Hey Mom, let's cook nasi lemak tomorrow.".

Sambal

A good sambal is when your tastebud is able to detect the spicyness, saltiness, aromatic belachan, a hint of sweetness and most of all it is not watery.

Cucumber

Anchovies

Peanut

Boiled Egg

There's also the coconut rice but i forget to take a picture of it. :P

... and there you go, a plate of Nasi Lemak.

Call me conservative, but I like my Nasi Lemak this way. No extras.

P/s : Sorry for the lack of updates. Kinda busy with mid-sem examinations.

Oh yeah, Happy Valentine's Day! <3

Nasi Lemak Famous

"Nasi Lemak Famous" is located at the right end of the open air food court in front of Bangsar Village. Strangely enough another famous nasi lemak - "Nasi Lemak Ganja" is located at the other end. I was meaning to try the Nasi Lemak Ganja but they're not open so i settled with this one.

The sambal was good and has the ooomph but it is not the best i've tasted. While the cuttle fish was cook to perfection. It would be A+ if the spicyness is doubled. ;p

My sister opted for the chicken- which i should have! The chicken was to die for! Man, i don't know they made the chicken so crispy and so juicy!

Both the nasi lemak costed more than RM 10 ( I can't remember the exact figure) which is a bit pricey for the portion. The drawback of the place is definitely the atmosphere. Now, i'm not trying to say that i expect it to be like a 5-star hotel. But something there just don't seem quite right for me.

Malaysian Breakfast

As much as i loved to have ham and bacon for my breakfast, the Malaysian breakfast is always good once in a while. Nasi Lemak is my all time favourite breakfast.

I was in Cheras (i don't know the exact place, sorry!) recently and my sister brought me to this coffee shop for breakfast.

Nasi Lemak

I would always choose telur mata kerbau over hard boil egg to go with nasi lemak. The sambal was nice but it had too much anchovies. Rice was perfect ;p

Sambal sotong

This one is really delicious! omg, i'm drooling at this picture man ! ;p

Limau Ais

It's good to wash down the fats of coconut milk with something sour.

Teh Ais

... or go along with the common drink of every Malaysians.

Milo Panas

...or the popular Milo ;p

Have a nice and syiok day readers!
