Nyonya Colors - The Gardens Mid Valley

The patronizing of this restaurant was very impromptu. I was famished by the time I reached Mid Valley and Nyonya Colors happened to be right in front of me, so I walked in.

I find the combination of marble tables with the beautifully drawn wooden stool to be very unique. Love the classic flowers on the chairs!

The menu is nothing much to shout about. They offer mainly local affairs - nasi lemak, fried beehoon and the likes. Instead of opting for nasi lemak, I decided to choose something different and went for the Nasi Kunyit with Chicken Curry.

It was my first time eating glutinous rice cooked like this and I thought the turmeric glutinous rice tasted fine. But the chicken curry was too creamy/milky for my liking. It felt like I was eating chicken cooked in curry flavored milk!

My stomach (mind, body and soul if I may add.lol) doesn't go very well with food that are too creamy and milky. I left almost half of it untouched and even so, I still feel quite sick after that.

I am not so much a fan of kuih-s but i thought they looked very inviting at the counter top so I ordered the talam, lapis beras and red bean to try. They all tasted the same - or maybe because my taste bud was already malfunction by then as I was already feeling very giddy from the horrifying bowl of curry.

What makes matters worse was the teh ais I ordered came extremely sweet. I took only few sips and decided it was too sweet for any human consumption and left it.

The restaurant really made me felt like I just paid RM 14.30 to make myself miserable. Lol.

On a happier note, I'm going for a short therapy!

Exactly a year ago, I was here also here (the hotel, not Penang) for the same reason! Good to be back again. Unlike Nyonya Colors, TuneHotels comes highly recommended from me :P

Now, please excuse me ... as I rejuvenate with beers and pizza on the bed! (and breathe in air cond!) <3

YO! Sushi

YO! Sushi is a British food chain, serving Japanese food located in The Gardens. Now I know this place is no stranger to most of the foodies, so i'll skip the history and introduction ok? :)

I've always love the interior. It's not the open kitchen concept that I love but rather the combination of black and bright colors.

Since it is slightly more expensive than some of the Japanese restaurants, I was expecting a top notch service from the hostess. But what I got was the opposite. The hostess persuaded (though I really believe force is the more appropriate adjective here) us to have their set lunch and we got irritated and obliged.

She was emphasizing so much on "free miso soup and green tea. Unlimited refills." Truth was, we got no refills and no one came to check whether we finish our green tea or miso soup or not. Hmmmphf.

The set lunch came with your choice of meal and we chose firecracker fried rice and chicken katsu don. The portion was really something to laugh. They were using the exact plate to place the sushi-s at the kaiten belt! So if you're a fast eater, you can finish it in less than 5 minutes?

However, credit goes to the taste. They used the authentic and better quality Japanese rice and it was really well fried.

It was my first time tasting chicken katsu don so I can't compare with any other places. I thought it was good but I have to say Japanese curry is more of an acquired taste for Malaysians because it has this sweet after taste that I believe not many would be fond of.

While waiting for my ordered food, I took a plate of chuka iidako from the kaiten belt. It was of smaller servings, and not to mention more expensive too. Taste wise was just ok.

We also had the stir fry mushrooms as a side dish. While it was cooked perfectly in terms of flavor and texture, it is really nothing to rave about.

It costed us close to RM 50 for this meal. Not very worth it lah. :P

Saint Cinammon

( The line is really bad here so i can only post a short post) This place is by far the only place in Malaysia that has good cinnamon rolls. The fun part is that this place is owned by fellow Sarawakians. ;p

My dad is a huge fan of this place that every time we're in Mid Valley, he'll ask us buy him a box.

They have about 10 flavours ranging from the traditional cinnamon to the modernised flavours- walnuts, blueberries... I personally like the traditional cinnamon flavoured one. The price range is from RM 3.50 to RM 5.00 per roll.

Their cinnamon rolls is amongst the best i ever tried and i like how they had the sweet glaze on top. It stays fresh for 2 days without the fridge.

The staff is very friendly ( i'm not saying this cause they are all Sarawakians ) and they actually thought i was a foreigner. ;p

It's a bit over-priced if you asked me, but it's worth it. ;p

Anyway, i will be on a budget trip to KL tomorrow. ;p Good food, here i come!

Egg Tarts

I'm a sucker for egg tarts but i'm really picky when it comes to egg tarts. Most places had too much pastry on. oh ! and I like the puff pastry egg tarts rather than the normal butter pastry.

Jusco Midvalley is the place for the best egg tart. The stall is just right outside the main door for the groceries ( the part they sell wines and bacons ). They also have a variety of pastries other than the egg tarts.

and it obligatory for me to buy at least a dozen back to Kuching every of my visit there. They have two types - the normal one and the butter egg tarts. Both taste awesome!

It's really damn, damn good! ooh la la!
