How to Prepare American Breakfast

I've been waking up no earlier than 3 p.m ever since I got back and yesterday, I made a point to wake up slightly earlier yesterday to prepare myself a wholesome breakfast - something I really, really miss.

It's strange to say that one of the things I yearn to eat so much when I'm away from home is a perfect sunny side up. I'm really peculiar about my eggs. ;p Oh, the egg above is a double yolk egg!

To go with the sunny side up, I pan fried some chicken frankfurters, baby potatoes, carrot and french beans with butter and a small dash of black pepper.

I also pan fried some potatoes and to add some extra fats to my meal, I let a small piece of cheddar slice melt on the done tomatoes. :D

What's American breakfast without fresh juice? tee hee.

Life's a bliss :D

Oh ya, today I had Hainanese breakfast. Hehe.

Home is the heaven on earth!

How to prepare American Breakfast

If you're looking for a quick but home cooked breakfast, American breakfast is the answer.

All you need is eggs, milk, baked beans, canned green peas and a little green of your choice. For vegetarian, that's probably all you can have.hehe.

But if you're a meaterian like me, you can add in sausages and bacon.

I used the sausage range from Solisege (available at Cold Storage) and I highly recommend this brand. They're a little pricey tho', about RM 22 for 5 huge ones.

To prepare the scramble egg, whisk the egg with milk ( A tablespoon of milk for each egg), half teaspoon of butter (for two eggs), black pepper, salt and pepper. Cook them like how you cook the normal omelet.

Then, pan fry both the bacon and sausage. The bacon goes in first so you can have the nice aroma of bacon on the sausage.

Garnish the eggs with the canned green peas and have the baked beans at the side. Viola!

This serve great as a breakfast on the bed on a lazy Sunday morning with someone you love. :)

Have a great weekend, peeps. :)

How to make cheese and bacon fritata

For those who doesn't know what fritata is, it is actually the Italian version of omelet. The only difference with the conventional French omelet is that this one is baked.

You will need grated cheddar cheese, cubed sausages, ring olives and pre fried bacon. Fritata in general had tomatoes too but I skimmed that out because I don't like tomatoes. :P

Whisk the above ingredients with two eggs and add in salt, white and black pepper and a small knob of butter. Just before you put it in the oven, top it with more cheddar cheese.

Have your round baking pan wrapped with aluminum foil so that it doesn't sticks on it.

Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes (or till cook) and viola!

I had this for my brunch so I also made ham sandwich and fried hash browns to go with it.

It doesn't take a genious to prepare ham sandwich - basically ham, wholemeal bread, lettuce and mayonaise. While for the hash brown, I just had it fried. :P

Big brunch platter with orange juice. :)

A pronto breakfast

I love cooking from scratch but a little part of me still love the food from Chef Boyardee era. Especially on days when I wake up feeling lazy and want something quick.

Nothing can wrong with sausages! Kids love it, Adults love it too! ;p

It's not obligatory to have burger buns to go along with your patties. You can eat it just like that!

Put both in the oven or pan fry it. The former is a lot healthier!

Baked beans is my all time favourite food. The one by Heinz is a lot better than the locally produced ones.

While the sausages and patties are in the oven , prepare the half boil egg.

It's not exactly an ultimate breakfast since it's fast food (except for the half boil egg) and it contains lots of trans fat. But once in a while, i reckon it wont hurt much. ;p

A hainanese affair

Hainanese breakfast is one of the tastiest yet easiest breakfast to prepare. Not only that , it can keep you full till lunch time!

Toast is almost essential in a hainanese breakfast. I love my toast slightly brown, crispy but not overly crispy that it breaks when you bite it.

If you prefer the sandwich toast, toast a thicker bread and slice them into half. It taste better like this, instead of toasting two thin slices of bread.

My old time favorite toast is the sugar and butter toast. A knob of good old Golden Churn and lots of sugar.

Of course, toast alone is not gonna make you full. Have two half boiled egg to go along with your toast!

However if you prefer to start your day with something savoury, go for the luncheon meat + egg toast.

First, cut the luncheon meat into thick slices. You can either pan fry them or put them in the oven.

Then, prepare a basic omelette.

Spread some mayonaise on the slightly toasted bread and viola!

A closer shot!

And finally, no hainanese breakfast is complete without a good cup of coffee. ;p

Pancake with caramelized banana, chocolate and maple syrup

To prepare the caramelized banana, you'll need bananas, sugar and butter.

It's really easy. Just cook the three ingredients in a small pot at a slow heat. Sugar burnt really quickly so be careful of the heat.

Cook for about 5 minutes or so and you should get something like this. It looks really yellow because i'm using fine sugar but if you want the nice caramel brown color, use brown sugar.

For the pancake, I used Green's pancake pre-mix which is an Australian brand. It is in a bottle, so basically, just add in water and shake it. Betty Crocker used to be my favourite but i found out Green's tasted better but texture wise, Betty Crocker is better.

Slightly grease the pancake pan with butter. If you don't have a pancake pan, you can use the normal non-stick frying pan.

When the surface of the pancake is bubbled like this, it means the pancake is ready to be turn.

A perfect pancake should have this golden brown surface.

Served the pancake with maple syrup and the caramelized banana you prepare earlier.

Or, if you love chocolate, you can also prepare chocolate ganache and sandwiched it. Then serve it in a pool of maple syrup.

A cup of good and thick chocolate malt drink to go with your pancakes.

Great stuff to start your day.

Mc Donalds Breakfast

I had a depressing night in LCC-T recently. I overnight there because I couldn't make it for the last flight back to Kuching so i had to take the first flight the next morning. Anyway, before my flight, i had breakfast in McD's (not that there's many choice after all).

While everyone had the boring Mc Muffin and tasteless omelette, like always I went for the Hot Cakes. The pancakes is nothing to shout but it's the best on McDonald's breakfast menu.

It came with a small tub of butter and maple syrup. If you're sweet tooth like me,you can ask for an extra tub of maple syrup.

I also went for a cup of premium roast coffee. It is priced at RM 3.80, which I thought was slightly overpriced. The regular one goes for RM 4 ++ but there's no point of ordering that cause they provide free refills.

It has a nice strong aroma but it didn't help to keep me awake. I was asleep before the plane took off.

Hari Raya

My reader, David requested me to write a post for Hari Raya. Unfortunately, i didn't do any visiting and seriously, i'm really sick of Malay food already. (Been eating everyday in hostel!)

I came to Penang to stay over at a friend's house for the Raya Break and we cooked breakfast together on Pagi Raya.

Sausages

Eggs

Bread with butter

Our breakfast!

and i practically spend the rest of the day sleeping!

My dinner was KFC's Snack Plate! :)

Everywhere i go the workers seems to be wearing Baju Raya. This is a picture i took at KFC.

This is a little late, but Selamat Hari Raya Ei-Dul Fitri.
