Melaka Sentral

I'm doing some quick update here before boarding my flight in 30 minutes. This is a backdated post tho'. ;p

Before I left Malacca, me and my friends decided to have our dinner since the journey back will take two hours.

It's a Malay operated restaurant and I must say it's a rare sight.

I never expected the chili to be good but it turn out super good and i had so much of it.

The rice balls was however disappointing. It was hard and taste nothing like chicken rice. The chicken was however the opposite. It was well flavoured and nice.

Both the drinks were alright. Nothing to rave about. ;p

Soya Bean

Ice tea

It's final call now for my flight. I better go! :P

Gurney Drive

Gurney Drive is a popular tourist spot in Penang and known for its wide varieties of Penang hawker food. It is located just beside Gurney Plaza so it's not very hard to spot.

The place is very packed that it's hard to walk without shoulder-brushing someone. It is really humid and as much as I don't want to sound pretentious here but i'm not very fond of crowded and hot places.

Like what everyone rave, you're indeed spoilt with the massive choice of Penang hawker delicacies.

But beware though, before you actually sink your teeth on these food, you might need to endure long queues - which can be really irritating.

One thing i find very interesting was the wide array of apettizing looking lok lok for you to choose.

It took me quite a while to finally have all the food I wanted on the table. Heck, it took a while to even find a seat!

Penang Assam Laksa

This is my first time eating Penang Assam Laksa in Penang. I love the noodles. So smooth and it goes really well with the broth.

Lok Lok

The lok lok tasted like any other fried stuff but the rule of the thumb for a good lok lok lies beneath the sauce. I didn't think the sauce complements the lok lok. It was too sweet and sticky.

Char Kueh Tiau

My friend was saying "This kueh tiau better be good! I queued so long for it!". Well, unfortunately, i find the kueh tiau too greasy and i could feel my arteries shouting for help. ;p

Fried Oysters

This is another thing which you would need to queue for. The batter was good and there's generous portion of huge oysters. The maximum time to queue for this dish is 15 minutes. If it's more than that, it's not worth it. ;p

Umbra

This is buah kedondong juice. It's on the mild side, but still good.

Soya bean

With all the oily and high cholestrol food, i don't think soya bean is the best choice of drink.

Coconut

A good way to quench your thirst. Comes in at RM 4 each.

Oh, before you go back. Take a stroll down Gurney Drive to burn the calories of that plate of char kueh tiau. ;p

A friend of mine whose a local told me not to go Gurney for its local food and yes, I would have to agree with that. Red Garden Night Market would definitely be my choice for good Penang food.

Lamb + Pizza + Fries + Salad

I'm still feeling quite homesick now and was browsing through the photos yesterday night. I thought it would be nice to share with you what's my typical dinner at home.

Stir-fry lamb with broccoli and carrot.

1. Marinate the lamb shoulder cutlets with black pepper and seasonings for about 20 minutes.
2. Mean while, cut and clean the broccoli, carrot and onion.(That nob of butter there is for later use).
3. Stir fry the lamb and add the vege when the lamb is almost done. In my case, medium ;p
4. Ready!

Pizza

1. You will need mozarella and parmesan cheese.
2. For the toppings, sausages and canned mushrooms.
3. Have the coulis spread on the pizza skin and baked in the oven for about five minutes first - so that your pizza is not too wet. If you don't have coulis, get the seasoned tomato paste in can.
4. Arrange the toppings and it's back into the oven again!

Served along with fries.

And salad ( that i had forgotten to take picture :P)

Heaven! Home cook is always the best!

Koreana Restaurant (Revisit)

For Christmas Day, I went for dinner with my mum because my dad had to attend a wedding dinner. (Personally i find people having their big day during festivals are a bit selfish.)

We were quite undecided on where to go since most places will be serving Christmas set. More than often these Christmas set will be overpriced and taste awfully bad. After contemplating for more than an hour, we finally decided on Korean food.We went to Koreana in Premier 101. ( Anyone know if the one in Hilton is still operating?)

I've always love how in Korean restaurant they'll give you plates of appetizers in small portion. I don't know if it does magic on you guys, but it does boost my appetite. (which is good for them too.Talking about win-win situation.)

The kim chi used to taste so good but now it was so mild that it almost taste nothing but a "wet" cabbage. The rest of the appetizers are nothing to shout tho coz they taste almost the same.

and another hairy vege that didn't manage to be in the frame.

You get this vege in every Korean restaurant. I have yet to figure out the name tho.

Kim Chi Soup

I really like their kim chi soup a lot in my previous visit but this time, it was really disappointing. It tasted a lot like assam fish hence a tad of foul fishy smell and lack in the kim chi taste.

Stir-fry squid

Squid stir-fried with kim-chi that is. A bit too sweet. The squid's fresh tho.

Fried Tang
Hoon

They use the thicker version of tang hoon but this dish comes in too oily for my liking. It tasted good nevertheless and probably one of the few dish in the menu that is without kim chi.

Hot Korean Tea

Not recommended.

Ice Lemon Tea

Recommended!

The bill came up to a total of RM 70.50. :) Oh yeah, i also met Ting Pek Khiing there. For West Malaysians who don't know who he is, he is the one who build the Kuching International Airport, Miri International Airport and if i'm not mistaken the one in Kota Kinabalu too.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all my readers a blessed and fruitful new year.

Christmas Eve Dinner

Sorry, for I haven't been blogging actively. I don't have internet connection at home and i find no inspiration blogging outside. I'm now back in my uni so food posts will resume as usual. :)

I just got back yesterday morning and i'm not exactly in a good state of emotion. Homesick! Anyway, back to my posts. This year, for Christmas Eve, I spend it with my family.

Stuffed Chicken

We have Turkey every year but this year turkey cost almost RM 200 (unprepared one) and I thought that was a bit overpriced so we had chicken instead. We had the stuffing like Turkey and cooked like a Turkey. ;p

Baked Portabello with bacon

I love fresh portabellos!

Oat Baguette

No Western meal is perfect without baguettes along. Trust me.

Salad

I bought a miniature wine in Green Heights before dinner. My parents is not a drinker and I have never really fancied wine as well. I just bought it coz its Christmas!

I think the idea of having it this size is great for outdoors. ( i. e : dates in the beach).

For desert, we had Chocolate brownie Cheesecake.

The dinner itself wasn't extravagant but having to spend it with people that matters to you the most made the whole night perfect.

I miss you mum and dad.

Mc Donalds Breakfast

I had a depressing night in LCC-T recently. I overnight there because I couldn't make it for the last flight back to Kuching so i had to take the first flight the next morning. Anyway, before my flight, i had breakfast in McD's (not that there's many choice after all).

While everyone had the boring Mc Muffin and tasteless omelette, like always I went for the Hot Cakes. The pancakes is nothing to shout but it's the best on McDonald's breakfast menu.

It came with a small tub of butter and maple syrup. If you're sweet tooth like me,you can ask for an extra tub of maple syrup.

I also went for a cup of premium roast coffee. It is priced at RM 3.80, which I thought was slightly overpriced. The regular one goes for RM 4 ++ but there's no point of ordering that cause they provide free refills.

It has a nice strong aroma but it didn't help to keep me awake. I was asleep before the plane took off.

The Menu

First, sorry for the impromptu hiatus! I'm back in my hometown and I don't have Internet connection. Many things happen (including a funeral) and i didn't have the time to go online.

Apparently, three days ago, i turn 21.i had a quiet dinner with my close friends at this new place called The Menu in Jalan Keretapi upon recommendation from a friend.

I liked the interior. Impressive and classy.

There wasn't much choice for food tho'. We didn't take a long time to settle with our menu.

Grilled Cheese Chicken Chop

It is actually one of the best chicken chop I've tasted in kuching. Grilled almost to perfection and well marinated. The portion is too little tho'. i was hungry 2 hours later. ;p

Grilled Chicken Chop

Tasted the same with the cheese one, just without the piece of cheddar slice.

Grilled Fish Fillet

This one is on the bland side and i find the fish overcooked.

Ribena Sprite

Sour Plum

This is my drink. It tasted alright.

Ice Lemon Tea

I can't remember the exact figure for the price but the range for the one we ordered is RM 10- RM 11 for food, and RM2 - RM4 for drinks.

I then went to
jase's tea room to blow my cake ;p

Have a nice day everyone!

Ice Milk

This is the Chinese version of air bandung. i like how i is presented-much like the three layer tea back in Kuching except this one is two layer.

The bottom layer is grenadine syrup and then top with mildly diluted ideal milk. i had thought it would be a "heavy" drink with the amount of milk in it but surprisingly it was really refreshing. It tasted really good and different from the Malay version of air bandung that is more than often too sweet.

Highly recommended -Available at Bali-Bali , Sungai Dua, Penang. It is called "guleng peng" (direct translation-ice milk) so if you intend to try, don't go and order "teng lang bandung" (direct translation-chinese bandung).

** This is the second time i camp in coffee bean within a week!! I couldn't make it for the last flight back to Kuching so , here I am stuck in the airport.
